Mouse Print* -- AAA Stops Cramming "Optional" Donation Onto Members' Bills
In April, we spotlighted the American Automobile Association's practice in some parts of the country of tacking on a one dollar charge to members' bills as an "optional" contribution to their safety foundation. They even included it in the total "amount due." A review of just-issued bills, however, reveals that our little story perhaps got them to stop that nasty practice.
That is our Mouse Print* story this week.
American Airlines' Policy Changes Could Leave You Stranded
When you buy an airline ticket, you don't physically sign a contract where the airline lays out all its rules. Nonetheless, their "conditions of carriage" applies to all customers. AA recently amended those rules. Forbes reports that changes such as only giving you a partial refund if a leg of your trip is cancelled or substantially delayed rather than making efforts to rebook you on a different flight or airline could strand you away from home.
Most Dependable Car Brands
J.D. Power recently surveyed over 33,000 owners of 2018 vehicles after three years of ownership to determine which car brands were the most reliable. Overall, Lexus, Porche and Kia topped the list, with Tesla, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, and Land Rover coming in last. Specific models of cars that did well are listed by category such as for compact cars, SUVs, etc.
Why Uber and Lyft Have Gotten So Expensive
During the past year, ride hailing companies' rates have gone up by about 50%. Yikes! What's going on here? According to the Wall Street Journal several factors are at play including a shortage of drivers, increased gas prices, drivers' preference for delivering food rather than people, discontinuation of discounts to riders, etc. Some drop in prices is expected this month as federal unemployment benefits run out nationally.
